We are thrilled to welcome Google to the Reboot Representation Tech Coalition. Google’s support is critical to our goal of doubling the number of Black, Latina, and Native American women graduating with computing degrees by 2025.
Google believes the opportunities created by technology should be available to everyone. Grow with Google provides Americans with digital tools, training, and resources to help them grow their skills, career, and businesses. A key part of Grow with Google’s work is equipping educators and learners at every age and stage with tools and skills that help them unlock opportunities in the classroom and beyond.
Google’s investment in Reboot Representation reaffirms their deep commitment to nurturing innovation and inclusion in tech.
“Google is deeply invested in reducing the equity gap in computing education,” said Shanika Hope, Director of Google’s Education for Social Impact team. “We’re proud to partner with Reboot Representation to help equip more young women with resources and mentorship to pursue careers in computing – and ultimately, to increase representation in tech.”
The Reboot Coalition was founded in 2018 following a first-of-its-kind report to collect data directly from tech companies to understand how they approach philanthropic and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives focused on closing the gender gap in tech. The report revealed that although tech companies express a strong desire to reach Black, Latina, and Native American women, less than 0.1% (or $335,000) of the 32 tech companies’ 2017 philanthropic giving focused on reaching them specifically.
Our Coalition, including Google, comprises 22 members and 7 partners who have now collectively pledged more than $26 million to Black, Latina, and Native American women in computing. This is more than a 75x increase from the 2018 report’s findings.
“Collective action from companies has the unique power to change the current landscape, ” said Dwana Franklin-Davis, CEO of Reboot Representation. “We’re proud to partner with coalition members like Google who are committed to having honest conversations, doing impactful work, and engaging in thoughtful collaboration to achieve meaningful wins.”
