The Reboot Representation Tech Coalition is pleased to welcome Activision Blizzard, an industry leader that has brought together the best creative talent in gaming for over four decades, as a Senior Executive Member. Activision Blizzard’s commitment to Reboot upholds their devotion to meaningful, lasting change and strengthens our commitment to doubling the number of Black, Latina, and Native American women graduating with computing degrees by 2025.
“At Activision Blizzard, we believe that our employees and players should see themselves reflected in the company and in our games, know their voices matter, and feel like they belong,” said Kristen Hines, Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer at Activision Blizzard. “Reboot Representation is critical to this mission, and I believe we’ll be able to work collectively to make lasting change and empower the next generation of builders and creative minds. ”
The Reboot Coalition was founded in 2018 following a first-of-its-kind report to collect data directly from tech companies to understand how they approach philanthropic and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives focused on closing the gender gap in tech. The report revealed that although tech companies express a strong desire to reach underrepresented women of color, less than 0.1% (or $335,000) of the 32 tech companies’ 2017 philanthropic giving focused on reaching them specifically.
Our Coalition, composed of 21 members and 6 partners, has now collectively pledged more than ~$26 million to Black, Latina, and Native American women in computing –– more than a 75x increase from the 2018 report’s findings. No single company created gender and racial inequity in the industry, but as a collective, they have the unique power to change the current landscape.
“Right now, we need more companies to believe in the power of targeted approaches in yielding a more representative tech workforce,” said Dwana Franklin-Davis, CEO of Reboot Representation. “In joining the Reboot Representation Tech Coalition as a Senior Executive Member, Activision Blizzard is proving that they are steadfast in their commitment to equity in the tech sector. We’re thrilled to welcome them to the coalition and look forward to the creativity, culture, and ambition that is at the heart of their company.”
