Today, Walmart announced that they will join the Reboot Representation Tech Coalition as an Executive Member. We are excited to have their support as we work towards our goal of doubling the number of Black, Latinas, and Native American women graduating with computing degrees by 2025.

As the largest private employer in the U.S., Walmart’s commitment shows that companies continue to believe in the power of targeted approaches in yielding a more representative and equitable tech workforce.

The Reboot Coalition was launched after a 2018 publication reported that although tech companies express a strong desire to reach Black, Latina, and Native American women, less than 0.1% (or $335,000) of the 32 tech companies’ 2017 philanthropic giving focused on reaching them specifically. With Walmart’s commitment to the Coalition, the now 16 companies have pledged $18 million to increased representation for women of color in tech–more than a 50x increase from the 2018 report’s findings.

Alongside our 15 existing member companies, Walmart is committing to Reboot’s mission of taking action to close the race and gender gap for Black, Latina, and Native American women in tech. No single company created gender and racial inequity in the industry, but as a collective, they have the unique power to change the current landscape.
